This is similar to the way that it is too convenient to think that divorce is a sin but that once you divorce you may remarry. You shouldn't be able to get out of obligations like that. Of course, sometimes you can get out of obligations by wrongfully making them no longer fulfillable as when someone gets out of obligations to care for a sick relative by murdering him. But the case at hand isn't like that. Love can be made to return. Though perhaps not in the same form.
